Sunday morning in Honduras. Early departure from the Kellogg Centro in Zamorano heading for the city of Danli and services at Cristo Rey Church there. Even though Danli is a fairly large city, the streets of the main drag are all dirt. The church at Danli, Cristo Rey is fairly well established, and they have a parish hall,
and had built a sanctuary, but this templo is being rebuilt now. The previous structure was built so shoddily that they were forced to tear it down and start over.
Only the bell tower was left.
Services today were held in the parish hall. Guitar, keyboard and a trio of ladies accompanied the young male vocalist and the congregation. A young couple sat next to me, and when their year old daughter started fussing, she began to breast feed the child. Completely natural, but can you imagine the uproar if a mother breast fed her child at All Saints’ Lakeland? The roof would blow off! After lunch at the El Torito Restaurante outside Danli, we headed for Moroceli and another Eucharistic service there.
The service at Moroceli was celebrated by the Rev. Carlos Alvarado, assisted by the Rev. Canon Kathleen Pennybacker. This was the first Eucharistic service to be held by the church in Moroceli, more specifically Iglesia Episcopal Todos Les Santos in Moroceli. The service was held in the open porch on the side of the home being rented by Padre Carlos. Roosters were crowing in the back yard during the service, kids and dogs wandering around but that did not take away from the service one little bit.
I took my usual people pictures,
As usual they loved the camera.
This little guy wasn’t too sure however.
Padre Carlos and the whole congregation prayed for the building next door that they hope to buy for the templo.
This is the retired cigar factory building mentioned in a earlier post.
Some more folks.
Maybe not great photography, but neat people. As you can see below, teenage girls are the same the world over.
This young lady is going to slay the guys some day.
After visiting for awhile, we loaded up our magic carpet and returned to Zamorano for an early evening. Pretty much churched out, but they were two very moving services. Christianity concentrating on what is important, worshiping God as a family of believers.
